A Little Cloud of Joy
I love a good dollop of whipped cream. It makes any dessert feel special. This peppermint version is like a sweet, chilly cloud. It reminds me of candy canes and happy times.
It only takes five minutes to make. You just whip everything together. Doesn’t that sound easy? What is your favorite dessert to put whipped cream on?
The Whisking Trick
You need a very cold bowl for this. I pop my mixing bowl in the freezer for a bit. A cold bowl helps the cream get fluffy faster. It’s a little trick I learned from my mother.
She would make whipped cream by hand with a wire whisk. Her arm would get so tired. I still laugh at that. I am very thankful for my electric mixer now.
Why We Add the Extracts
This part matters. The vanilla extract is not just for flavor. It helps to soften the sharp taste of the peppermint. This makes the cream taste round and full.
Without it, the mint can be too strong. It should taste like a holiday, not like toothpaste. Getting the balance right is what makes a cook feel proud.
The Fun Swirl Part
Now for the red swirl. You only stir the red cream in two or three times. If you mix it all the way, it turns completely pink. That is still pretty and tasty.
But the swirl looks so magical on top of a brownie. It shows you took an extra moment to make it lovely. Do you like a strong red color or a soft pink swirl best?
A Spoonful of History
People have been enjoying whipped cream for a long time. *Fun fact*: The first written recipe for it appeared in 1549 in Italy. They called it “neve di latte,” which means “milk snow.” I just love that name.
It connects us to people from hundreds of years ago. They loved a sweet treat, just like we do. It is a simple pleasure that never gets old.
Your Turn in the Kitchen
This recipe is a wonderful one to try. It is hard to mess up. And the reward is so delicious. Doesn’t that smell amazing when you add the peppermint?
Making food with your own hands is a special thing. It fills the kitchen with good smells and your heart with joy. Tell me, what is the first thing you will put this peppermint cream on?

My Peppermint Whipped Cream Cloud
I love a little magic in my kitchen. This peppermint whipped cream is just that. It turns simple desserts into something special. It reminds me of candy canes and winter evenings. Doesn’t that smell amazing?
You only need a few things to make it. Heavy cream, sugar, and those lovely extracts. The peppermint smell fills the whole kitchen. It always makes me smile. I still laugh at the first time I made it. My grandson thought a candy cane fairy had visited!
Step 1: Get your cold heavy cream ready. Pour it into a big, cool bowl. Using a mixer, start to beat it. Watch it slowly get thick and fluffy. This takes about three or four minutes. It is like watching a cloud form. (A hard-learned tip: make sure your bowl and cream are cold. It whips up so much better that way!)
Step 2: Now, add the powdered sugar. Sprinkle in the vanilla and peppermint too. Keep mixing until the cream holds a stiff peak. This means it stands up tall when you lift the whisk. Be careful not to mix too long. You do not want to make sweet, minty butter!
Step 3: Here is the fun part. Spoon a little bit of the white cream into another bowl. Add a few drops of red food coloring. Stir it until it is all a pretty pink. This is your secret ingredient for the swirl. Do you think the red swirl makes it taste better? Share below!
Step 4: Gently fold the pink cream back into the big bowl. Just stir it two or three times. You want to see lovely red streaks. If you mix it all the way, it will be all pink. That is still delicious, of course!

Three Tasty Twists to Try
This recipe is wonderful as it is. But you can also play with it. Here are a few of my favorite ideas. They are all so simple and fun.
Chocolate Chip Mint: Fold in mini chocolate chips at the end. It is like your favorite ice cream in a bowl.
Fruity Swirl: Use a drop of strawberry extract instead of food coloring. It gives a lovely pink color and a fruity hint.
Cocoa Dusting: Keep the cream all white. Right before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder. It looks so elegant.

Serving Your Sweet Creation
This cream is a dream on so many things. I love a big dollop on a warm brownie. It melts just a little. You can also top a cup of hot chocolate with it. Or spoon it over fresh berries for a light treat.
For drinks, it pairs beautifully. A cup of rich hot cocoa is my top choice. For a grown-up treat, a splash of peppermint schnauff in coffee is nice. Top it all with this creamy fluff. Which would you choose tonight?
Keeping Your Whipped Cream Perfect
This peppermint cream is best eaten right away. But you can store it in the fridge. Just cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. It will stay good for a few hours.
I do not suggest freezing this cream. It will become watery when it thaws. I learned this the hard way. I once tried to save some for my grandson’s visit. It was a soupy mess!
You cannot reheat whipped cream. It will just melt. This is why making it fresh is so important. A little planning makes your dessert extra special. Have you ever tried storing it this way? Share below!
Fixing Common Whipped Cream Troubles
Sometimes your cream will not get thick. This happens if your bowl or cream is warm. Always start with a cold bowl and cold cream. I chill my bowl in the freezer for ten minutes.
Another problem is over-beating. You will get butter! I remember when I did this as a girl. My mother laughed and said we had a new recipe. Stop mixing as soon as stiff peaks form.
The red swirl can also turn pink. This happens if you stir too much. Just fold it in two or three times. Getting it right makes you feel like a pro. It also makes your dessert look beautiful. Which of these problems have you run into before?
