  2. Peel and halve the onion, slice thinly, and cut slices in half. Wash potatoes and cut into ½ inch (1 cm) cubes, leaving skin on. Place in a saucepan, cover with boiling water, add salt, and simmer with a lid for 5 minutes. Drain in a colander and cover with a clean tea cloth to absorb steam.
